I frequently need to create content for manufacturers. I have to admit I frantically checked content I am busy with at the moment to verify your points raised! Luckily, no heart attack was necessary.

If I can share a few of my thoughts:

Point 1: Definitely. Too much useless information is a pain in the arse to work with in the real world environment. The manufacturers however, are 99% of the time so paranoid that a competitor will "steal" and "modify" their families, that they require "company intelligence" to be build into any available family space. I do add 1 additional shared parameter field to my families though (Because I can, and need to): "Content Created By". Any additional info the client may require, are always family parameters.

Point 3: Complete agreement! People forget that content is used all over the world. Most companies have users of varying skills and attention span levels. So many companies I have worked with already have duplicate shared parameters conveying the EXACT same information: "Model Nu." "Model No." "Model Nu", Model No".... I'm sure you catch my drift. If you don't use family type parameters for this, you are hurting more than helping.

Point 4: Agreed. If the family is not user friendly, it won't be usedHerman Solomonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00095267514361482813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807546545325587932.post-3716199979060964672015-02-03T07:17:03.465-05:002015-02-03T07:17:03.465-05:00You read my mind here.
